If you really want, you can host your own instance of Nortrom.

Requirements

  • Python 3.14 or greater
  • pipx with ensurepath successfully ran at least once

Installation

  1. Download the bot with:

    pipx install nortrom

  2. Create an application at the [Discord Developer Portal].

  3. In the Installation tab, set Installation Contexts to only Guild Install.

  4. In the Installation tab, set Default Install Settings to scopes applications.commands and bot, and permissions to Deafen Members and Mute Members.

  5. In the Bot tab, press Reset Token, and keep the generated string.

  6. Set the generated string as the DISCORD_BOT_TOKEN environment variable:

    export DISCORD_BOT_TOKEN=AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.BBBBBB.CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC

  7. Run the bot:

    nortrom

Persisting the bot

In a production setting, it's recommended to have a way to keep the bot running.

You might want to look into something like nohup, screen, tmux or systemd units.
