Host your own (pipx)

For greater privacy, you can host your own instance of Threadkiller.

Requirements

  • Python 3.14 or greater
  • pipx with ensurepath successfully ran at least once

Installation

  1. Download the bot with:

    pipx install threadkiller

  2. Create a bot at @BotFather, and get its API token.

  3. Set the API token as the TG_BOT_TOKEN environment variable:

    export TG_BOT_TOKEN=0000000000:AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

  4. Run the bot:

    threadkiller

Persisting the bot

In a production setting, it's recommended to have a way to keep the bot running.

You might want to look into something like nohup, screen, tmux or systemd units.
